Sallie Eccles was born and raised in Dillon, South Carolina to the late Sallie L. Crawford and Moses Crawford. After completing high school in Dillon, South Carolina, she traveled to New York and worked at Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company. She also was a proofreader for book publisher Donald Downing.
When she entered her first poetry contest, “Caribbean Girl” won first prize at the International Library of Poetry, Owings Mills, Maryland. Sallie’s first recital was at Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland, where she received many applauses and accolades.
Sallie has been writing poetry over forty years, and has written over 400 poems. Poetry is one of her best therapeutic things to do because it’s relaxing and enjoyable. She is eager to share her God-given talents with the world. She can write a poem about anything. All she needs is 10 minutes and a title. She was inspired to publish her first book after the death of her favorite poet, the late and admirable Maya Angelou.
Sallie has a kind and loving spirit, and loves to talk and make people laugh. She has a passion of giving, caring and sharing, even to total strangers. Sallie is not married and resides in Maryland.
